Today, I like Shelley
This is the heroine speaking from his Revolt of Islam:
“Can man be free if woman be a slave?
Chain one who lives, and breathes this boundless air,
To the corruption of a closed grave!”
This same heroine leads the revolution. She sounds a lot like Mary Wollstonecraft which makes sense since Shelley and Mary spent a lot of time re-reading her mother’s books, particularly, “A Vindication of the Rights of Women.”
