Malaise and James Patterson
It’s time to start a new book. The clues: 1. Hyper-focus on son (Have you finished X task yet? Have you thought about the summer? Have you made a list of colleges to visit?) 2. Heightened interest in laundry and menu-planning 3. Generalized anxiety and free floating depression 4. Envy of those with “real” jobs 5. Nagging questions: Is it too late to become a lawyer? Hedge fund manager? Red Cross volunteer in Ghana?
True, I have many undone tasks. Taxes loom. Classes begin on Monday and I haven’t finished the reading that I myself assigned. Friends are wondering why I have not written, called. But I am haunted by people like James Patterson, who write many books simultaneously. A good strategy if you don’t like finishing things.
